White

White is an amazing color, well the absence of color actually. Its variations are endless and it goes with any color. If you follow ‘the rules’ of fashion you know that after Easter you are allowed to wear white so I thought I would post about it. Lately I have been finding that I am drawn to things that are white and when I examined all of my favorite things I realized that most of them are white; dresses, nail polish (strictly for the toes in my case), painted wood floorboards, wicker, hydrangeas, tulips, cardigans etc. I also like the idea of all white bedding with variations of texture and dimension. Below are items in white that I like best and rooms that use it best.

1. Anthropologie White Narcissus Mirror $328 2. Ray Ban Wayfarers $139 3. Anthropologie Toe Tapping Flats $64                      4. J.crew Reese Back Zip Gladiator Sandals $118 5. Butter Nail Lacquer in Cream Tea $14 6. Vespa LX 150 in                                  Cortina Gray $4,399

Neon

I love color- really vivid, juicy color. That’s why I have taken such a liking to the neon trend. Neons can be too wild but they don’t have to be. Many associate neon with the ’80’s but now neon is being used in a whole new way.  A bright cocktail ring can jazz up a simple dress or a neon belt can make a sophisticated pair of slacks and blouse fun. Using it in small doses creates the best effect. Painting a small piece of furniture (such as a desk or chair) a bright or neon color can give it new life. Pair with softer cordinating colors or neutrals for a polished feel. If you’re afraid of painting a piece of furniture start off with items on your desk such as a hot pink paper organizer. Some of my favorite brights are below. Please tell me what your favorite way to use neon is! Thanks. -J

1. OPI Gargantuane Green Grape, In My Back Pocket and Need Sunglasses Nail Polish, prices vary. 2. Trash and Vaudeville studded belts, about $22. (212) 982-3590. 3. Leatherock patent-leather clutch, about $270. (800) 466-6667 4. Kate Spade Tarrytown Darla $100 5. Wanted lycra ballerina flat, about $40 6. Henri Bendel NYC Sequin resin bangles, about $48 each 7. Anthropologie Wow-Factor Bangle $198 8. The Luxembourg Chartreuse Trolley, available from The Conran Shop.

Orange!

I love the color orange! Though it can be garish, the right shade paired with the right colors looks great! Orange always looks wonderful with pale aquas, creamy whites and brown (think Hermes box!).  It’s such an invigorating color! Any way, I thought I would share some of my favorite shades of this fab color as well as some lovely items in orange! Doesn’t it all make you think of eating a juicy-tangy-sweet orange? Yum. Enjoy. -J

Color of the Year 2010

Pantone is pleased to announce PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise, an inviting, luminous hue, as the Color of the Year for 2010. Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, turquoise inspires thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a comforting escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing. Turquoise is a beautiful color and goes with every season. It looks great in summer and spring when everything is bright and happy and it still looks great in fall and winter when things can be a little drab. It brightens everything (that’s a good thing). I would say that Pantone did a fabulous job choosing the 2010 color of the year! See my evidence below! -J
